This app used to work five stars But about several months ago it seems that the data was not updated automatically and was degraded greatly When I compared this apps results with another that I now use I find that this app comes nowhere near being accurate for any forecasted flares Very disappointing Don t bother to download until this is fixed     Used to work just great Star-geezer
This app is a pleasure to play with I ve now seen about 43 of all sats and I really appreciate how it leverages Game Center to keep track of those across my iOS devices                     Terrific OldeMan
Can t search for flares in the future There are controls to do this sorta month and year but no day Huh But they don t work That s what I wanted from this app 1 star for showing flare centers         Date search broken Leopd1
With Apple s OS upgrade this app now intermittently freezes Not reliable any more and that s a shame This app used to be pretty cool         Used to be Better Birmbear
This app was great up until the most recent iOS update Now it just freezes and crashes Fix this PLEASE     Horrible rob7152
I love this app and use it s game center support to track which flare I have seen I iwn several Iridium flare apps and this is the best                     Works flawlessly on my 5S and iPad Air Love it OsgoodKelch
Save your money     App no longer works Pauco56
Fantastic app Easy to spot great reminders Can t rate this high enough Love the verbal countdowns Love the locating camera view radical Love the ability to add alerts filter on magnitude everything                     Excellent Brad Goodman
This app has worked a total of ONE time in about 3 months     SB5h
Keeps freezing Info is inaccurate Hasn t worked right yet Don t waste your money     Doesn t work right Working212
I own this Sputnik and Iridium Flares apps For the purposes of planning to take images of a flare this offers the most There are two features that are only offered by this app as far as I am aware The orientation feature helps me rotate and pitch the angle of my tripod to center the image in my lens I will line up my iPhone with the back of the camera to reach the proper tilt I next hold the iPhone level to take a compass bearing then orient the tripod to that view You should hold the iOS device level and away from the tripod The compass can be affected by nearby objects Secondly the countdown feature lets me know when to release the shutter The countdown is set to the point of maximum brightness not first appearance If I plan on a 30 second exposure I hit the shutter at the T minus 15 second point to capture the waxing and waning of the flare symmetrically It works spot on Can you take a pic with an iPhone It s never worked for me The image sensor is not sensitive enough Use a DSLR                 The best app for Iridium Astrophotography twoeyedox
Even when there is a wireless connection it does not update the orbital elements or TLEs on which predictions are based So predictions will become out of date                 Does not update TLEs Mark H-L
I ve had no problems with this app it does what it says it does The folks who suggest the app is slow may want to double click the home button on their phone or iPad and close all the apps that reside on that bottom row This will free up valuable processor memory Tonight I went out and the prediction was precise to the second Amazing Make certain to calibrate the iPad compass prior to observing as well mine was off about 2 degrees the altitude was precise though Great app                     Works very well KC9CS
Takes a long time to update about 20 30 seconds I like everything else about it though             Good graphics but very slow to update OCEM965
This app has been great For the most part it s very accurate and how allowed me to capture some great pics My only beef with this app is that my compass is mostly useless You have to bring a compass or use the North Star Secondly every now and then this app will glitch out and ring constantly It seems to think there are going to be back to back flares and then it gets stuck in this endless loop It gives you two options view or close Pressing either one does nothing and the app continues ringing Other than this occasional glitch I have found this app to be pretty amazing I love the game enter stats that keep track of all the flares you see Without this glitch it would receive 5 stars                 Great but Hoovcluck
This is a good app and does what it advertises However there are some bugs 1 Compass does not work I had to use the built in compass Minor annoyance to switch 2 It wants to constantly recompute a flare Perhaps there is a setting All that being said I like the countdown feature very helpful Get these minor bugs fixed and this program will be a 5 star for sure I was able to point the camera and photograph a 2 flare the other night Having the camera at the correct altitude was a huge help                 Good but needs work Astro nut
But the compass never works That s kind of a fail Where are all the reviews         Good concept Congadawg
Accurate and great UI Love it                     So cool panos_ip
This app is very cool works great just as discribed We seen the flare exactly at the time it said it would happen Cant waint to see the next one tonight                     slats Fslats
Just got this app and I love it Well designed and easy to use Iridium 52 just flew over Tuscon at 7 magnitude and I had the whole family in the backyard to watch it She flashed at the exact time and location the program said it would This was the first time to try it out and I was afraid of being let down But the program absolutely nailed it We had the audio countdown feature on which just added to the suspense Super fun I also bought another satellite app that cost me ten bucks and though it has cool graphics their satellite tracker doesn t work for me I m very pleased with this app Nice job guys                     So cool JD in AZ

Just read the top review herethe one on astrophotography Thats really cool I use just a regular old digital camera to take ISS constellation and Iridium photos No DSLR camera needed The first two are easy but its hard to time things right to capture the Iridiums as they dont often last that long The audio countdown feature sounds great for that I was going to raise the rating another star in anticipation of using that but then discovered another issue We shouldnt need to use Game Kit to track what weve seen Im not in competition with others and dont especially want my observing made public The lingos confusing too I think this means Game Centerthe standard public Apple game sharing service Also wish the other problems would be fixed See below Back down to 3 stars The app has a confusing mixed message If you pull down you see the progress circle of its very slow updating of flare infobut the message there says Pull down to abort THATS JUST PLAIN CONFUSING Raised another starthe developer took care of 4switched from a confusing circular display to a clear bar graph Fantastic I also went ahead and turned on Location Servicessee 2 below The compassaltimeter are well implemented excellent graphical display Be patient even do the figure 8 biz but it does find itself and is great especially for twilight and lower Iridiums as you can see the treelined sky on the iPhone screenand raise or lower the phone and move NESW I still wish that having LS on werent necessary but maybe thats how the iPhone works It still takes far too long to download the datasee 1 but doesnt try fetching every time Note the x for canceling has disappeared One thing that needs changingthe background is a faint drawings a sextant but it makes the screen look dirty and harder to read Its a nice idea but doesnt work in practice Please change it or maybe give users an option to turn it off Overall given the improvements Id say its worth a buy These apps are so cheap and most developers arent getting rich but putting in lots of work that its worth having a variety of astro apps in your corral PREVIOUS REVIEW 1 It still takes forever to load its dataand then it recalculates each time you open it There is an X to abort the operation but that takes a long time to shut down too I reduced the number of days being forecast to only 3 and the time is still excessive far longer than any of the other satellite apps and they load a week or two of data quite quickly eg Iridium Flares and ISS Visibility both of which I highly recommend The slow loading time sadly makes the app virtually unusable In fact Ive stopped using it Note Im on an iPhone 4 so Im guessing this may work better on a current Idevice 2 The next big problem is that the compass only seems to work if you have Location Services on Why that is I have no idea but its a nuisance This is supposed to operate well offline but that defeats one of its key features an altitude azimuth display of what you are looking at helping orient you in the right direction 3 Third it also seems to fail to update when its already open Weird for sure All the predictions will show red and tell you how many days they are out of date yet youve just twiddled your thumbs while it was supposedly updating them 4 Fourth youll probably be as surprised as I was that the big circles next to each flare with black lines coming off of them do NOT represent the direction of the flare but simply count how bright it is Odd choice as a builtin direction mark would have been a brilliant interface feature BOTTOM LINE I really wanted to like this app and still might if these things get fixed in the next version If so I can promise you that I will be back to upgrade my rating In the meantime you should check out Iridium Flares and ISS Visibility which are wonderful alternatives I have raised my rating a star in recognition of how hard it must be to program an app and do it wellplus this app does have many good features           Getting better a solid upgradeworth a buy
