This app is great Better designed and thought out then most apps by big companies it does was it says it will do and well One suggestion would be to provide both individual character and compound character definitions when scrolling over compound words Also more definitions would be helpful as some characters have many meanings For example zhong is always translated as China even though it really means center and needs to be followed guo to mean China the country Maybe a dictionary upgrade is in order in the future but as it stands this app is an invaluable tool                     Much needed and well done Orrinico1122

This is a great app and worth the money for people learning Chinese It saves tons of time moving back and forth between a text and a dictionary app if you are at a stage where you need to look up more than the occasional word I appreciate that it s a universal iPhone iPad app This app lets you paste in a chunk of Chinese text simplified or traditional and then it processes the text against a dictionary breaking it into words which you can then touch for a pop up definition You can save your texts and even bookmark them It s very similar to the Reader function within the Pleco Chinese Dictionary app I like this interface better than Pleco s which looks too much like its original Palm incarnation Pleco puts its definitions in a pop up that covers part of the text you re reading and appears in different places on the page depending on where the word you touched is while HanZi Reader puts the definitions in a separate box that doesn t move or overlap with your text HanZi Reader s formatting of the dictionary definitions is easier to read than Pleco s with different definitions of on separate lines rather than separated by slashes But Pleco has the advantage of being tied into the rest of their feature rich app For example Pleco can have multiple dictionaries installed which can all be accessed through their Reader whereas HanZi Reader seems to use only the cc cedict which is not a bad dictionary by any means but still HanZi Reader would be improved by allowing the user to change the automatic word segmentation Pleco can allow you to define separately each character of a 2 character word Even with its more limited features I find reading in HanZi Reader to be a more pleasant experience than in Pleco                 Excellent but a little room for improvement Lin Ai
